I want to, but I am too busy to keep up with spending tracking. I wanted to post regular graphs, and to really keep it going. I wanted to see each spend, and to keep a close eye on it. I don’t have the time. The value is not there to me. I know folks may think I am crazy, or making excuses. It feels that way to me, but there is my counter point.
The standard piece of advice I give to everyone about everything is that you have to filter all advice to you. I already have the voice in my head that says, do you need this whenever I spend. I already do the mental gymnastics to see if I can use what I have, including at dinner time, and I know when I go against my own better judgement. After about 6 weeks of trying this, and really not doing for the last 2 – 3 weeks, I decided that the test was over. I’m not gaining anything. My habits are not improving, nor getting worse, and sadly, nor am I getting any interesting information. That’s the deal breaker for me, and really what I was hoping for.
I am an engineer. I love measuring things. I love the scientific method, and I apply it everywhere. Even with my erosion control. I first tried cheap leaves and grass clippings. That worked until it didn’t, and so I now tried small stones. If that fails, then I will buy border plastic that people put in gardens that are supported by stakes. I will do that, and some larger and some of the smaller stones.
At the end of the day, regular spending tracking does not work for me. It’s kind of a bummer, and maybe I didn’t give it enough time, but I just have to many other things vying for my attention, and this does not make the cut.
